Out of the mouth of a Child

An early Morning Musing about Nigeria.

It's just before 4am, and the relentless barking from the street dog outside had woken me up,I tried hard to go back to sleep but ,it didn't work cause this "stupid dog" would not stop barking.

So I grabbed a head phone to listen to some light music to drown out the barking to help me fall at sleep again, in the process I watch this video below and just could help to think about the state our educational system in Nigeria finds its self today. notes (video not mine)

Indeed  since "none serious minded people" most often, unfortunately run public institutions like the ministries of education.

They never really prepared for reopening of school, but like everything Nigerian they just recently Ordered! reopening of "exit classes" with about a week's notice - after so much dilly dallying about  WAEC or no WAEC Examination the secondary school final year exams taken by schools in West Africa.

As for public higher education, especially Universities, hmmm 😔😣 those ones are shut up,locked down and locked up like Jericho, while Higher Education progressed seamlessly online in most developed nation when the Corona Virus pandemic hit,for our " beloved Nigeria" The public Universities students were already at home due to a strike action, then came Covid-19 to move the situation from the frying pan right smack into the🔥fire & added Polytechnics/Colleges of higher learning students to the seat at home & do nothing with your life list.

Nobody wants to say it but we know, as govt continues to bury their head in the sand chasing looted and re looted public funds like it's a reality TV show, public higher education students in Nigeria are most likely to lose one full academic year ,no thanks to ASSU strike,Covid Unleashed and you guessed it,an "Unserious Minded" Govt.

Make you ask the question, why are Public institution of higher learning in Nigeria still largely analog with almost zero digital capabilities?

From managing student records ,to access of  online resources/ materials/library  for students & to even delivery of online lectures- there's been zero investment & so the Corona situation brought the "chicken home to roost "but will government learn, Nope! all we hear are alligations & counter alligations of public/govt officials helping themselves to public funds and then fainting, collapsing, or wearing neck braces, when questioned to account for missing public funds - oh Nigeria who shall save you from these "broads of viper's" ,Yes we complain about the rot,and carry on but I do believe there's an answers ,there's  hope. If the answers  will not come from my generation, hopefully with children like in this video -,theres answers nestling  in coming generation to fight & end this rot in all sphere of government.

Update- so it's 7:30 am.

I posted this video on my WhatsApp status just to share - but obviously not everyone saw it from my angle - so it started the chat below ,between me and well, even though we ain't seen or talked in years, let's just say a Uni,friend from way back when we both studied at the same University in the UK.

I leave bits of our WhatsApp conversation here..

Its A Matter of Cash

On the 20th of Jan 2009, i watched on as million and millions of Americans all celebrated one thing HOPE!, and change that lies in horizon, and from my room I wondered will our home land Nigeria ever have something to celebrate about, even if its just change, a change in the right direction. Below is an article written in response to CNN's NIGER DELTA, Planet in Peril,  by a friend of mine,  Comfort Olubo Umaru  a lawyer based in Abuja Nigeria. IT’S A MATTER OF CASH. by  Comfort Olubo Umaru As an avid reader, a former resident of the area and concerned citizen, it would be remiss of me not to start any discussion on the Nigerian Niger Delta with one name. Kenule Saro Wiwa. As a child my favorite TV show was Bassey and Co. This was a screen adaptation of plays written by Ken Saro Wiwa. It was about a wise cracking young man called Bassey and his friend Alale and their varied antics. The show was all about their varied attempts to ev...

Black In The Oval Office, Africa Don't Celebrate Yet

Mr Obama proposes to invest $150bn in alternative fuel over the next 10 years, he said the US would not be held "hostage to dwindling resources, hostile regimes , and a warming planet”. He called for greater fuel efficiency and an "energy economy" aimed at creating millions of jobs for Americans. "We (the US Government )will commit ourselves to steady, focused, pragmatic pursuit of an America that is freed from our energy dependence, and empowered by a new energy economy that puts millions of our citizens to work". Read and read it well Nigerian government, policy makers and anyone who cares, the hand writing is on the wall, since successive government in Nigeria have only payed lip service to creating an economy for Nigeria that is diversified and not heavily reliant on oil, I guess this is a wakeup call. If the major buyer of your product say he see a future of less dependence on not just you as a supplier, but also on the product you sell in the ...

Power of Social Media

So we approaching the last weeks in July 2015, am setting up and trying to know what it feels like working from my new office space within the GRA ( government reserved area) of the city of Port Harcourt, Rivers State Nigeria. A key question for me is, how will I sort out my lunch daily? because it seems like getting lunch is going to be a challenge. As far as I know there are no eateries offering food delivery service in GRA Port Harcourt, unlike in Lagos my office is located in the hub of business Victoria island where its common place to find a range of eateries, pizza joint etc, all offering delivery services. Thank God for google I decided to do quick search online and voilà,! I found Chicken Republic in Port Harcourt. They now offer delivery to some locations in the city and they cover the GRA where my office in Port Harcourt is located. I placed a call to what seems like a central line for all Chicken Republic orders, the customer service center staffs was nice and well...
